The hubby Ching Chong Boy and I were invited to Park Palace’s CNY Menu food tasting. Park Palace is located in Grand Park City Hall Hotel. (yes, the same hotel where I had a staycation celebrating the hubby’s birthday a few years back.)

When I first arrived, I was pleasantly shocked by the lovely set up.

The presentation was A+. Everything looked really classy, and honestly a bit ching chong, which was perfect for Chinese New Year!

We started off with the Golden Shunde Yu Sheng. I heard from the kind PR folks that this tweaked Lo Hei dish was a delicacy from Shunde, a river town in China which is renowned for its freshwater fish.

Here, they used yellowtail with the normal classic ingredients. However, they used premium soya sauce and fragrant peanut oil which highly altered the usual yusheng sauce taste. While the hubby thought that it was a nice touch without the rather jelak sickly sweet taste, I wasn’t too sure if I liked this. However, the gold dust and flakes was a rather nice touch. Super huat look!

HAHHAA. Don’t be shocked, the pig was just brought out to be shown to us, this was not served on the table.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the Golden Happiness Garoupa. Felt that the Sweet and Sour sauce was a bit of a miss-match to the dish and that the batter was a tad too thick for my liking. The hubby happily gobbled down both our portions though. -__-”

The Prosperity Flambe Pen Cai however was one of my favourite dishes! This HUGE dish had 18 luxuriant ingredients including Sliced Abalone, Sea Cucumber, Whole Convoy, Prawn Balls, Roasted Duck, Roasted Pork Belly, Duck Web, Soya Chicken, Fatt Choy, Black Mushroom, Lotus Root, Broccoli, Radish, Beancurd Skin, Gingko Nut and Black Fungus. The dish is infused with Cognac to give a hint of alcohol. Seriously speaking, this dish is realllllly too much. Our whole table was struggling to finish it.

Remember the Suckling pig skin earlier? Here’s the rest of it jazzed up in a unique lemongrass variation. Most of us liked the dish however I felt that the lemongrass flavour was not evenly distributed.

Auspicious glutinous rice with Foie Gras and preserved meat. This dish “hai” me to heck care my low carb diet. I think it’s a better dish than the usual fried rice or noodles.

The Steamed Mini Pumpkin Dumpling with Green Bean Paste was a delight on the eyes and taste.

My overall verdict? The people at Park Palace has certainly excelled at the presentation, while there were a few hits and misses, I would still recommend the menu to family and friends.
