As mentioned in my previous post, we together with Missuschewy's family, traveled to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
For our trip, we stayed at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa which was located very conveniently near the airport.
We had the most amazing room - the Kinabalu Club Family Room which offers two adjourning rooms. This room can fit 2 kids and 2 adults comfortably. We 'parked' our Bumprider stroller that we brought for our trip in the kids room heh.
The kids room had a bunk bed alongside a comfortable siting area and bean bag. There were also cute touches like magnets for them to play with. Check out my video of the room here! For the parents room, they had prepared items like a baby cot, diaper changing pad, kids toothbrushes, a steam steriliser and bottle warmer. These were really useful for us through the trip as I was breastfeeding!
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel for a Sabah FAM trip with missuschewy's family courtesy of AirAsia and Sabah Tourism Board.
I actually visited Kota Kinabalu Sabah ages ago back when I was studying in Poly for an Outward Bounds Sabah challenge course and had climbed Mount Kinabalu in Sabah. It has always been one of my fondest memory as it was one of the toughest time physically and mentally for me back then. When the opportunity came up, I was really excited to check out Sabah from another perspective aside from the nature and greenery that Sabah has always been portrayed for.
I'll be sharing the main highlights of the Sabah FAM trip here with quick and light notes. If you have any queries or require more details, feel free to leave a comment in this post!
We traveled by AirAsia who offers one of the most Affordable and Cheap Air Ticket. A flight to Kota Kinabalu takes slightly above 2 hours. For those with children, I would recommend booking Hot Seats for the priority boarding. We all know how long it takes to settle kids, so priority boarding is a good to have!
Also with kids, it is best to prepare food and drinks. We prebooked our meals and it was served promptly.
We had the Emperor Fried Rice (which was one of the most popular hot items) and the newest added items Nasi Kandar with Chicken Varuval and Spiral Pasta with Chicken Sausage. The meals were tasty and were not spicy, which was great when sharing meals with the kiddos. Aidan loves to share our food
Aidan really enjoyed the Spiral pasta! I felt it was really suitable for him as it was easy to bite and was tasty yet not spicy. He's quite a picky eater honestly but he finished the whole meal!
You can also order light bites like we did for the flight back.
We had the Vietnamese Chicken Wrap, Salmon Ebiko Onigiri, Assorted Sandwiches and salted peanuts for snacks. Skai also had the Miso Soup and Hot Coffee.
After our experience with traveling with an infant & a toddler on a flight, here are some tips on flying onboard for those daring to do this.
Bring things to distract the toddler
Kiddos will get bored. For our short duration, Aidan couldn't sit still AT ALL. We brought toy cars for him to play with and gave him the window seat. NOT ENOUGH. Need more toys or distraction. We actually brought a whole bag of toys but they were checked in as we didn't think we would need so many onboard. Noob mistake. Next time, I'll bring a colouring pad, storybook and a music toy instead. Also, bringing toys = likely picking them up all the time. So be prepared for that!
Bring a nursing cover for those breastfeeding. For those who do not, bring milk for the kids to drink.
Kids won't know how to unblock their ears unlike us adults. It is best to get them to swallow to remove those discomfort. For me, as Davina is exclusively breastfed, I latched her undercover. For Aidan, we brought a water bottle and got him to sip water throughout. Also, our meals onboard meant Aidan was kept busy eating and drinking which helped cure some of his boredom and also that he kept swallowing and didn't have much blocked ears.
Have very very very thick-skin. Don't be paiseh.
Honestly speaking, my kids cried like siao. Especially Davina who always cried before her nap. We tried our best to soothe them but there are times where it just didn't work. I gave apologetic looks and said sorry to those around us. There was a not so nice uncle who was kinda pissed, but bo bian. SORRY TO ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO HATE CRYING BABIES ON FLIGHT.
The flight was quick and pleasant and we soon arrived at Kota Kinabalu airport. We were warmly greeted by the kind folks from Sabah Tourism Board alongside Ryan, our guide from Amazing Borneo and Amzar, our kind correspondent from Air Asia.
Silly Aidan was scared of the monkey mascot lol!
And that began our adventure in Sabah, Malaysia! Look out for the next entry where I share about the attractions and our wonderful accommodation in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah itself!
I have to admit, I have been extremely tardy with updating on the milestones. It's been so hectic and i hardly have the time to sit at the computer especially with Davina needing my attention always.
I only have time on my mobile these days and even those time, is very limited. The panda period is tough but this too, will pass 🙂
Here's Aidan's updates from 23 - 26 months!
At 23 months, I was still latching Aidan. While I know some may frown on latching as it may cause contractions, I have also heard of mothers latching throughout their pregnancy. I decided to continue latching though I reduced the frequency due to my nursing aversion.
Aidan still seem to enjoy school and playing with the kids. There were some mild cases of Aidan being bitten by his schoolmates but I heard that Aidan continued playing with them. LOL
Aidan also started recognising my tummy as meimei then.
Aidan's childcare had a bout of HFMD so we took him out of childcare for 3 weeks to be safe as we couldn't risk him contracting HFMD and passing to me at my final trimester.
Because we didn't send him to school, we missed celebrating his birthday at school. Instead we had a simple celebration at home where we discovered he is scared of lighted candles.
He can't pronounce his name still so he calls himself A. He would refer to his items like "A clothes", "A shoes", "A eat".
Aidan is still very picky over his food. Most of the times, he refuses to chew and would only take soft food. He loves soup a lot!
He is extremely peckish and would want to snack. We have bought lots of puffs, biscuits and snacks for him.
Meimei arrived 2 weeks after his 2 years birthday. He loves meimei a lot. He would hug and kiss her. But he doesn't know his strength, so we would watch out how he treats Davina lol.
Aidan is still very addicted to YouTube and we have had many episodes of him throwing tantrums just to get his way. Terrible twos?
Aidan recognises us. When we show him pictures of us in the past, he can still recognise us and would call us.
He is also very helpful and we would ask him to help pick up items etc and he would happily agree to do so.
He loves to play with toys especially the cutting toys. I think it's because he watches those videos on YouTube and is happy to see the same items at home.
So far Aidan has not showed any jealousy to Davina, will see how it goes!
Davina at one month old!
Davina like Aidan is exclusively breastfed. But her feeding behaviour is the opposite of Aidan. While Aidan latches on strong and long, Davina drinks for a short period of time but frequently.
Davina also rejects bottles unlike Aidan. She wakes every 1.5 hours and needs to either latch or be cuddled.
She sleeps better with us around her. We would pat her or hug her to sleep.
Davina seems to be more serious as compared to Aidan. I suspect her personality will be more like Skai's. LOL

Pregnancy the second time, makes me feel even more tired than the first time. Maybe the fact that I'm older plus having to chase Aidan is the reason why. HAHHAA. Sorry for the tardy updates, here's Aidan's milestones from 20 - 22 months old!
Aidan started childcare at 20 months old as there was a childcare slot FINALLY. Initially, Skai and I had plans to only send Aidan to childcare at 2 years old but since a slot finally opened in Punggol, we leapt at it!
He loves school and hardly cried. He loves socialising with his friends and have lots of fun. I think childcare is fun for him and we think that it's good that he socialises.
Unfortunately, he also fell sick pretty often in childcare. Cough, cold etc. He was even hospitalised for a bit.
I started dabbling into essential oils to help both Aidan and myself. Since I'm pregnant, I can't take much medicine. Also, I didn't want Aidan to take too much medicines too.
I still latch but I have stopped pumping. Latching was a bit difficult at this stage as I suffered from nursing aversion. More on this, soon!
With childcare, Aidan tend to sleep a bit earlier. While he is still energetic, he gets tired easily now.
He has started to be a bit more vocal these days. Saying more, milk, papa, mama, meimei, Aaaaa (as in referring to himself), sit in mandarin etc
He is still so manja which I love. He kisses our face all the time. LOVE IT. He is so cute when he does that! Though recently he started giving wet sloppy kisses hahhaha
He is still very very sociable.
Unfortunately after his bout at the hospital, he has been introduced to the land of YouTube. ADDICTION MAXIMUS.
Can't wait to see how he reacts when Davina is here 😀
