I am guilty again for lack of updates! Oops.

Here are the updates about the kiddos and milestones for the past 3 months ūüėÄ

Aidan's milestones from 27 - 29 months old

Untitled

  • While Aidan still continues to take breastmilk, I have swopped from latching to expressing milk for him. Tried tandem but it didn't work so well, hard to juggle both. Feels like I was gonna drop Davina anytime HAHA. Maybe when Davina is much bigger?
  • Aidan still enjoys going to school, however he finds it difficult to wake up in the morning and would make a huge fuss about it. He would cry nonstop and would want to sleep in.
  • Still a very picky eater. He hates anything huge or that he would need to chew. Super duper fussy! We should have stuck to BLW from the beginning but it's difficult when I'm not the main caregiver during weekdays ugh.
  • He still loves snacking a lot. He would ask for his biscuits, puffs, sweets and cheese.

Untitled

  • Daily, we would give him his supplements. So far, he's been quite a good boy taking it!
  • We have established a routine for him. Every night (if we do not go out) after dinner, we would have music time where we would sing along and dance. After that, we would read books. I try to read¬†a variety of books to him from alphabets to numbers to story telling and spot the difference. With this, his addiction to YouTube has reduced greatly but he would still try his luck by asking for it.
  • Also, Aidan is an essential oils baby. Every night, I would apply various oils and massage him. He really enjoys this and now asks for the roller to apply it on his feet himself.

Untitled

  • He is extremely sweet, he would hug Skai, Davina and me anytime and also rain kisses on us.
  • He has also started asking to brush his teeth daily. No signs of wanting to be toilet trained, so we'll just take it easy and see when he is ready.
  • Honestly, this time is the most toughest for now as he is quite opinionated. He would choose items that he wants to wear or use like his bibs. And he would tell me if whatever I'm wearing is nice or not nice. Problem is, he would also reject items these days. Like when I tell him "Aidan, it's time to sleep.", he would reply "Not yet!".
  • While it's the most tiring, I love this stage the most too. It's so fun to interact with him and teach him things.

Davina's milestones from 2 to 4 months old.

Untitled

  • Davina is SO DIFFERENT from Aidan. We had a really tough time bottle-feeding her. She refused the bottle and would rather starve and wait for me to latch her.
  • She is also a screamer. I blame colic. For a few weeks, she would cry at the same time every night and nothing soothes her. We have been giving her gripe water... minor improvements so far.
  • She also loves to be carried so that's the best way to soothe her.

Untitled

  • Just like Aidan, she has inherited our eczema problems. She now has some eczema issues on her face, chin and chest. Doesn't help that she scratches them all the time. We have resorted to making her wear mittens again.
  • She is also a smiley baby IF you smile at her. When she sees faces, she will smile all the time. But she would give a blank look at the camera. HAHHAA.
  • She sleeps through the night which is good and bad. Good cos I could rest better but bad cos I would wake up with super engorged breasts. Ow.

Untitled

  • Finally at 4 months, she managed to take the bottle. From drinking 30ml only, she is now taking 130ml. Thank god I 'lengthened' my maternity leave by utilising 2 weeks of annual leave.
  • She is a thumb sucker! She loves sucking her thumb and refuses pacifiers.
  • Davina flipped and would only sleep on her side or on her front, which freaks me out as I would keep waking up to make sure she is alive. I tried so many times to put her on her back but she would just flip back.
  • She would smile and 'chat' with Aidan when he hugs her. I think these two would be fun to watch in future. Got a feeling Davina will whack Aidan though. HAHHAA.

I know I always said I didn't want kids previously but seriously these two are a blessing. It's been so great having them <3

As mentioned in my previous post, we together with Missuschewy's family, traveled to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

For our trip, we stayed at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa which was located very conveniently near the airport.

We had the most amazing room - the Kinabalu Club Family Room which offers two adjourning rooms. This room can fit 2 kids and 2 adults comfortably. We 'parked' our Bumprider stroller that we brought for our trip in the kids room heh.

The kids room had a bunk bed alongside a comfortable siting area and bean bag. There were also cute touches like magnets for them to play with. Check out my video of the room here! For the parents room, they had prepared items like a baby cot, diaper changing pad, kids toothbrushes, a steam steriliser and bottle warmer. These were really useful for us through the trip as I was breastfeeding!

I have to admit, I have been extremely tardy with updating on the milestones. It's been so hectic and i hardly have the time to sit at the computer especially with Davina needing my attention always.

I only have time on my mobile these days and even those time, is very limited. The panda period is tough but this too, will pass ūüôā

Here's Aidan's updates from 23 - 26 months!

Untitled

  • At 23 months, I was still latching Aidan. While I know some may frown on latching as it may cause contractions, I have also heard of mothers latching throughout their pregnancy. I decided to continue latching though I reduced the frequency due to my nursing aversion.
  • Aidan still seem to enjoy school and playing with the kids. There were some mild cases of Aidan being bitten by his schoolmates but I heard that Aidan continued playing with them. LOL
  • Aidan also started recognising my tummy as meimei then.

Untitled

  • Aidan's childcare had a bout of HFMD so we took him out of childcare for 3 weeks to be safe as we couldn't risk him contracting HFMD and passing to me at my final trimester.
  • Because we didn't send him to school, we missed celebrating his birthday at school. Instead we had a simple celebration at home where we discovered he is scared of lighted candles.
  • He can't pronounce his name still so he calls himself A. He would refer to his items like "A clothes", "A shoes", "A eat".
  • Aidan is still very picky over his food. Most of the times, he refuses to chew and would only take soft food. He loves soup a lot!

Untitled

  • He is extremely peckish and would want to snack. We have bought lots of puffs, biscuits and snacks for him.
  • Meimei arrived 2 weeks after his 2 years birthday. He loves meimei a lot. He would hug and kiss her. But he doesn't know his strength, so we would watch out how he treats Davina lol.
  • Aidan is still very addicted to YouTube and we have had many episodes of him throwing tantrums just to get his way. Terrible twos?

Untitled

  • Aidan recognises us. When we show him pictures of us in the past, he can still recognise us and would call us.
  • He is also very helpful and we would ask him to help pick up items etc and he would happily agree to do so.
  • He loves to play with toys especially the cutting toys. I think it's because he watches those videos on YouTube and is happy to see the same items at home.

So far Aidan has not showed any jealousy to Davina, will see how it goes!

Davina at one month old!

Untitled

  • Davina like Aidan is exclusively breastfed. But her feeding behaviour is the opposite of Aidan. While Aidan latches on strong and long, Davina drinks for a short period of time but frequently.
  • Davina also rejects bottles unlike Aidan. She wakes every 1.5 hours and needs to either latch or be cuddled.
  • She sleeps better with us around her. We would pat her or hug her to sleep.
  • Davina seems to be more serious as compared to Aidan. I suspect her personality will be more like Skai's. LOL

For our first pregnancy, we hired a confinement nanny to help as both of our parents were not able to help with my confinement. We really appreciated the additional help especially since I had undergone a caesarian surgery.

This time around, it was pretty much a no-brainer decision for us. With an active toddler who is only 2 years old, we would need all hands on deck.

Thus this time, we decided to hire a nanny from PEM Confinement Agency which is one of the most popular confinement agencies in Singapore.

I actually shared about my nanny often on Instagram and some of my friends and readers have requested for a PEM confinement review so here it goes!

Here are the main reasons why we decided on hiring a confinement nanny:

  1. Our parents are unable to help with the confinement period. My mum is working whereas my mother-in-law can't cook confinement food and is not confident in taking care of a newborn.
  2. Having an additional pair of hands would help lighten our load and stress.
  3. Going thru another caesarian meant a longer recovery to me. I also did not want to stress my wound too much and I was right in thinking so. My recovery this time around was really really tough.
  4. We could concentrate on spending time with the kids instead of focusing on the chores.
  5. Skai was unable to take one month of leave to be the 'confinement nanny'.
  6. Both of us had no idea on how to cook and prepare confinement food.

With these overwhelming reasons, our decision came really easy for us. We preferred to work with an agency rather than hiring a freelancer as we have heard many horror stories about freelancers. With an agency, if there are any hassles, we could always get a replacement or ask the agency to settle the problem.

We called PEM really early in my pregnancy as I remember how fast they were fully booked being one of the most popular and reputable agencies. Made our deposit and was given a reference number and briefed on the procedures. We were told to call them once I have given birth.

We were introduced to Auntie Wee Kin (#454). I liked that she was bilingual as she managed to speak Mandarin to my hubby and Malay to me. I'll be breaking down my PEM confinement review into a few sections on how Auntie has helped us.

I guess as a second time mama, I kinda knew what I wanted to do. I discussed with Auntie  and we discussed on a suitable routine.

Breastfeeding

For me, with the success of Aidan's breastfeeding journey (he has been breastfed till now actually, more than 2 years!), I wanted total breastfeeding. Not only that, I only wanted to latch. No bottles or pacifiers were to be used during confinement. Auntie was super supportive of my breastfeeding journey and even helped to clear space in my freezer for when I pumped.

She also made sure I have adequate rest as she mentioned that happy and well-rested mamas would have a better supply. Not only that, she made sure to cook plenty of boosters for me to help with my breastfeeding journey.

We also had an arrangement where while she took care of Davina at night, whenever Davina was hungry, she will pass to me to latch and I will return Davina to her afterwards. Though it was more tiring for her as compared to feeding formula (where babies usually sleep longer) and that she would have to wake up more times at night, she was more than willing to do so.

Caesarian recovery

As mentioned above, my recovery was really tough. It was more painful than the first time actually. I was pretty much bedridden for the first week. Auntie  helped to cook nourishing soups for me to help aid my recovery.

Also because I had a caesarian, I couldn't eat chicken or eggs for the first two weeks. She prepared many various dishes that didn't make me 'sian' of pork at all!

Food

I told Auntie that from previous experiences, I did not want breakfast. If really need be, a simple toast or cooked oats. I couldn't stomach a very filling breakfast in the morning as this wasn't my style. For lunch, I preferred a one-dish meal and for dinner, I was okay with a few dishes as Skai would be eating with me.

Auntie made a lot of yummy dishes and once she knew what I liked, she would replicate it in many various ways. I often ask Auntie to cook the same thing over and over again (like my fave beehoon soup, fried beehoon, salmon and pork trotters).

I liked that Auntie kept things simple. Soups were nourishing but not bitter. Drinks were tasty but not overpowering. She was scared that I would be sick of the longan red date tea so she made sure to alternate drinks. I would have longan red date tea for one day and fried rice tea for the other. She would also prepare tea breaks for me. She noticed that I had very bad water retention and made a point to prepare red bean soup for me often.

Skai and I really enjoyed her cooking and we really loved the homeliness of it. Reminds me of home cooked meals. While she wasn't obligated to, she also cooked for Aidan who was a very very fussy eater!

Auntie also made sure I had sufficient hot drinks and would wake up in the middle of the night to replenish my flask!

Cleanliness

Auntie was seriously a clean freak! HAHHAA. And I mean it in the most positive and endearing way. She couldn't stand having things messy or dirty. In the first week that she was with us, she basically gave my home a makeover! She helped me with the messy rooms and kitchen. She introduced a better organisational system for both the nursery and kitchen which really made things easier to find! She is also very particular about cleanliness. She would mop and sweep the floor everyday.

Skai and I also liked how clean and neat Auntie was. We felt at ease with her taking care of Davina as we observed her cleaning and bathing Davina.

Love of kids

While Auntie wasn't obligated to take care or cook for Aidan, she did so. I noticed that she really loved kids and she love to interact with Aidan. She would entertain Aidan daily and play with him. She would also sing to Davina and chat with her daily.

Some days, she would help to feed Aidan so that Skai and I could eat at our own time without rushing through our meals.

PEM confinement review

I think one of Auntie's favourite moments with us was attending Davina's newborn shoot. She was going gaga over how cute Davina was. heh.

Temperament and character

What I liked about Auntie Wee Kin was her modern way of thinking. She did not restrict me from bathing and would prepare the herbs for me to shower with each day. She only asked that I would blow dry my hair so that I would not catch a cold. She does not nag and is not kaypoh. She keeps to herself when needed and is not a chatterbox. I really liked this aspect as for the first week, I was in tremendous pain that all I wanted to do is rest. She was a very motherly figure (without the naggyness) and was super caring.

PEM Confinement review

I miss Auntie so much! We even celebrated her birthday as it was during the confinement period. We found out that she liked colourful and sweet snacks so Skai went out to buy a mini rainbow cake for her. We kinda barged in during her rest time and sang to her. She was so shocked! hAHHAA.

I highly recommend Auntie Wee Kin to anyone who is looking for a confinement nanny. If you are looking for her, you can quote her number #454 when booking from PEM Confinement Agency. I have a friend who has booked her for her confinement and I'm so glad to hear that! I intend to visit her and Auntie once she has popped heh!

Here are the last two pics of Auntie we took on her last day! Even Davina looked sian that Auntie was leaving LOL. She woke up that day at dawn to prepare plenty of food for us. Super touched!

Thanks for reading this super long PEM confinement review. If you have any queries, please leave them in the comments below. Thanks!
