My eyebrow embroidery experience.

As some of you guys may know, I've been considering eyebrow embroidery for ages. I do not how to draw my brows nor shape them. I had to resort to getting my unruly brows trimmed by the professionals monthly and me trying to "shade" in my brows.

Some examples of my attempt at drawing me brows.

I was never satisfied with my brows and really found it a chore to "draw" them. In the end, i resorted to having bangs so that I wouldn't have to deal with that chore daily.

When Jacelyn told me that she had always wanted to have her brows embroidered too, we decided to get it done within the week. We did our research, looked thru a few reviews and finally shortlisted Allure Beauty. I had read reviews from Silver and Holly Jean and decided on Allure Beauty.

We set an appointment at the Clementi branch on a Saturday and we met up to head down together.

We both did not draw our brows that day and it was seriously a horrible sight.

Our unkempt brows! (our brows look damn light also because we had like foundation/powder on them)

Ms Joey Tee enlightened both Jacelyn on some misconceptions of Eyebrow Embroidery.

  • Eyebrow Embroidery is NOT the same as Eyebrow Tattoo.
  • Eyebrow Tattoo is a permanent method which involves the injection of ink into the dermis layer of one's skin. Overtime, the colour will change and some people end up with greenish/bluish eyebrows.
  • Eyebrow Embroidery is a semi-permanent method. The ink is only injected into the top layer of one's skin. Overtime, we "shed" our skin and thus the eyebrow embroidery will fade off naturally after 2 years. (Depending on individual)
  • Eyebrow Embroidery is not as painful as tattoo. While there is a slight pain, it is definitely bearable.

Here's the process of Eyebrow Embroidery.

1.The consultant will draw your brows to gauge what shape would be suitable for you. Usually in this process, there's a lot of discussions and revision of the "drawings".

Notice the big difference? On the right, is my natural brows while on the left, Ms Joey Tee had trimmed and drawn a more flattering "brow shape" for me.

The desirable outcome.

2. Numbing cream will be applied to the brows. It takes about 30 mins for the numbing cream to work its magic.

Yes, I look like I have a unibrow.

Meet my fellow unibrow companion :p

3. The process.

A new blade is used for each customer. There is no sharing of blades at all. Basically the consultant will use the blade to pick up some ink and make little cuts (it sounds worse than it is) into your skin. As it is the top layer of one's skin and as there is anesthetic cream applied, there is only a slight pain. In fact, imho eyebrow tweezing is even more painful.

4. The brows will be red at first and even super dark for some, but not to worry, the colour will fade.

Here are some after care tips.

  • The colour would fade about 50 - 70% within the first two weeks. But not to worry, there will be a touch up session.
  • While the colour fades, there will be slight scabbing, please do NOT peel the scabs.
  • Avoid contact with water for the first week.
  • Avoid scrubbing of brows for the first week.
  • Avoid whitening creams on the brows for the first week.
  • Apply the anti-scar cream diligently 3 - 5 times a day for the first week.

Hope this helps! Apologies for the long delay for those who have been asking me to blog about my Eyebrow Embroidery experience.

Here's how my brows look like after my touch up session. Extremely natural!

No regrets at all!

    Hi guys!

Eyebrow embroidery starts from 100+. There are different kinds to customise to each individual needs. Mine was a bit more costlier, it was 600+ but it was definitely money well spent for me!

Do they do the embriodery just for the ends or does it have to be the whole brows?

If i’m correct, they do embroidery for the ends too. Do check with them :)

  5. thanks for sharing, your eyebrows look fabulous!!! I recently did mine this past weekend and waiting for the scabs to fall out. doesn’t it feel nice to have them done? you save time on putting on makeup LOL… have you considered getting eyeliner too? I thought about doing it but with the amount of pain on my eyebrows I don’t think my eyes can handle it.

Cool! Where did you get yours done? Eyeliner embroidery? Not for me, I’m quite good at drawing eyeliner and am pretty fast at it, doubt i’ll do it. :)

That is true, I don’t like it when it smears though, then I have to reapply. I might have to look for a really good eyeliner. I did my eyebrows at Lapeauspa After searching hard, I decided to go here. Her reviews are great, the price was reasonable ($400) and she did a fantastic job :)

hi, thanks for sharing your experience. really wanted to have mine done but quite scared of the pain. allure charged you $600? i researched thru the net. i saw others offering the service at $400. is allure’s service really worth the cost?

    thanks.

Hi Cathie, allure charges from 198 onwards. Perhaps you’ll like to check with them what would be suitable for you?

For all you know, they might recommend you a service at below 400? For mine, i had to get detailed ones as I have almost non-existent eyebrows.

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

I just had my third touch up (had my first one done 2 years ago)
I get mine at sugar secrets. its my second year going there already, always really good service (linda is really sweet and patient (my tolerance to pain is far below average lol and she is very gently I barely feel anything) and the result is very realistic.

I paid 450 for first time (with free touch up after a month) and then after 6-8 months i go back and I only pay 150 to touch up, in my experience its best to choose your salon well, get along with beautician, do not hesitate to modify the pencil design until you are happy with it, and then just stick to this salon if the job was well done…such a relief to wake up with eyebrows on already (and they don’t fade when you go into the pool! I never looked back on getting them)

    Hi Del!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had two touchups and both were free though…

But perhaps I’ll keep in mind your suggestion and would consider Sugar Secrets after my current embroidery has “worn out”. Heh!

I’m glad you found my post helpful :-) yeah its a good address to know I think.
i am very picky (i actually walk out of a previous salon before they even started coz i felt they were unprofessional and it didnt make me trusting (thats how bad i am lol))
plus i wanted to be confident they were gna do a good job coz i have no eyebrow at all (well very very sparse like 2 3 hair lol so what they drew was gna show in the middle of my face!)
hope it all goes well for you!

hi del and nadnut, i mine done in sugar secrets. its just my second day after the procedure. but im not so comfortable with my brows cause the inner brows are so thick. i requested linda to redo for me to make it thinner but she said that the inner thick brows for the first week is natural bec of swolen skin. but when i look at my skin i dont think its swelling. so now i left to wait for a week to see if the swelling is the reason. did u exlerince this?

    [Reply]

    Reply:

Hmmmm. I didn’t encounter swelling personally, just some scabbing. My inner brows weren’t thick imo (as you can see from the pics).

Not too sure if Sugar Secrets and Allure Beauty uses different embroidery style though! Could be diff methods?

i had mine done yesterday. i am really scared at how erhm un-natural it now looks ! help !!
can i ask how long do i have to wait before it start to look more natural ? the shape is alright, just the color which is not natural looking plus the tail is sharp (the lady who did my brow say it will “feather” and look natural) .

i am terrified that it will not turn “natural” looking.

    [Reply]

    Reply:

Hmmm. Usually the first few days would seem a bit more “harsh” as you can see from my pics. For me, it took about a week to “soften”. My “tail” was rather sharp too!

    Hope this helps!

hi yt, i had the same sentiment as yours on the first 3 days. take around 4 to 5 days before it becomes more natural. so be confident when ur coulleagues notice the difference.

me too the tail is sharp. but it will not be “feather” like. im actually hoping that durin the touch up they correct the “tail” of my brows.

  12. YT

thanks gals. i am actually pretty hesitant to go for touch up already, after seeing how “harsh” (or fake) it looks now. i have quite ok volume at my brows, just lazy to go for shaping every few months. do you think it’s a gd idea to just let the color fade out and NOT go for touch up?

i rather contend with drawing my brows , then risk having the artist screw up my brows during touch up…. anything can hide easily except weird brows :(

Hi, if we are supposed to avoid water and scrubbing our brows for the first week as part of after care, how do you wash your face? (I went for Eyebrow Embroidery and wasn’t informed of ANY of this after care tips- the lady only told me to put on the scar cream. very displeased now)

First time after I did the embroidery eyebrow, I was terrified of my eyebrow shape, its unbalance! And the lady who did the eyebrow use manual stick just like your pic up there, now my brow skin scabs and It has unpleasant look. She said I should go back for the touch up after a month, I really hope that my eyebrows will look natural and beautiful just like you. I did the embroidery in Jakarta, the lady who did my eyebrow was graduate from Empro.
